Shawdesh Desk: A suspected mugger was killed and another was injured in a reported gunfight with the Rapid Action Battalion in the city’s Hatirpool area early Wednesday.

The deceased was identified as Shoshan Mitra, 42, son of Kanailal Mitra.

Superintendent Mohiuddin Faruki, company commander of RAB-2, said that three muggers coming in a motorbike snatched a bag from a man in front of Lab Aid Hospital around 12:45am.

On information, a patrol team of RAB chased the motorbike.

When the motorbike reached Hatirpool area, the elite force members asked them to surrender but the muggers opened fire on them, forcing them to fire back.

Two muggers — Hasan and Shoshan — sustained bullet injuries during the gunfight while another managed to flee the scene.

Later, they were taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where doctors declared Shoshan dead.

The RAB recovered a pistol, four bullets and a magazine from the spot.
